Self-ligating braces are a type of orthodontic treatment that use a special mechanism to hold the wire in place, rather than traditional elastics or metal ties.  Passive self-ligation  :This type of self-ligating bracket uses a clip or door-like structure to hold the wire in place. This type of self-ligation is considered passive because the clip or door does not actively move the tooth.

 Active self-ligation : This type of self-ligating bracket uses a mechanical device, such as a spring or ratchet, to hold the wire in place. The device actively moves the tooth, which can result in faster treatment times compared to passive self-ligation.

Both type of self-ligation reduces the friction and pressure on the teeth during treatment, which can lead to faster treatment times and less discomfort for patients.

One of the main advantages of Damon braces is that they use a "sliding mechanism" that eliminates the need for elastic or metal "ties" to hold the wire in place.

Ties put pressure on the teeth and slow down the movement of the teeth. With Damon braces, the wire can slide back and forth within the bracket, allowing for more natural tooth movement.

Additionally, Damon braces use a unique treatment technology called "Shape Memory" wire. This type of wire is made of a special alloy that remembers its original shape, allowing the wire to apply continuous, gentle force to the teeth.

This helps to reduce the number of appointments needed for adjustments and tightening, and can also lead to faster treatment times. 

Another advantage of Damon system is that Damon braces use "light-force mechanics", which means that the force applied to the teeth is lower and more physiologic than traditional braces.

As a result, the treatment is more comfortable for patients and it may also reduce the risk of root resorption.
